More than 50 police officers were lost in North Wales as Governments cuts hit home.

Home Office figures published on the 26th Jan showed that the North Wales Police Force has lost 53 officers in the 12 months to last September - a higher rate than the Welsh average.

The cut from 1,558 to 1,505 in North Wales was 3.4% of police numbers - Wales lost 232 officers in total (3.2%) and the figure was 30 for Dyfed Powys, a reduction of 2.5%.

Police Minister Nick Herbert responded by ordering forces to work together to slash the number of helicopters and air bases by a third, to save around £15m a year.

Nationally the number of officers in Wales and England dropped by more than 6,000 in the 12 months from September 2010 since reaching the lowest level in 2002.

Labour's police spokesman David Hanson, said 85 offices had gone from North Wales since before the 2010 elections.
